The Turner contemporary is the house of the visual art that believes in making art accessible to all. The Turner Contemporary gallery was built in Margate due to relationship of the artist with the town.

The space offers many non-permanent exhibitions, events and learning opportunities with scope work of art beginning in 1750 to present day.

“We are at the forefront of Margate’s exciting revival as Kent’s new cultural heart.” (Turner Contemporary, 2013)

From 2008 to 2011 work was underway to build the several award-winning gallery design on Margate’s seafront, which opened in 16 April 2011.

Getting here

Admission is FREE; the opening time is from Tuesday – Sunday and on Bank Holidays 10am – 6pm. It is closed on Mondays, Christmas and Boxing Day.

By Train - High speed trains from London St Pancras and Stratford International run every hour and take just 90 minutes.

- Mainline trains from London Victoria, Cannon Street, Charing Cross and London Bridge, which take a little longer. Victoria offers a frequent service with trains running approximately every half hour.

Southeastern trains is offering today announced a special £10 return ticket for travel from London to Margate during the winter months (Nov 2012 to Feb 2013 inclusive). The special deal is in support of the Portas Pilot initiative for Margate led by retail and marketing expert, Mary Portas.

All galleries is fully accessible for visitors, with less mobility

Serves seasonal cuisine, they use local sourced food and drink suppliers. The shop has wide range of souvenirs.

  • Easy Sundays – creative activities between Palette Painting and Nature imagined arranged of a small fee.
  • Easy Holidays – Wednesdays and Thursdays during half-term and Christmas break to explore the exhibition in practical way.
Talk series – brings experts, such as curators, tours and workshops to discover more about exhibition and visual art.
